Del.icio.us.ness for January 9th
What caught my eye today, January 9th:
- IES Appoints Kevin Settlemyre to Head American Operations - Based in Boston, Kevin seems to have a solid background “as a practicing architect, facade and environmental engineer with an expertise in analyzing sustainable strategies”.
- AIA Names Winners of 2008 Honor Awards | News | Architectural Record - Sustainability figured large in the 13 projects recognized in the architecture category. Includes one of my favourites of last year - the Loblolly house.
- Travelodge uses shipping containers for hotel - In Uxbridge - predictions of 10% less cost and 25% less time. Made in China. Modular construction. But still a Travelodge.
- CJ’s sustainability guide - “From BREEAM standards to the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) we chart the standards and regulations that matter, along with the tools and guidance you will need to meet them.”
- Cumbria woodfuel strategy could be enough to power 250,000 homes - Proposals to use undermanaged woodland to save 400,000 tonnes carbon (equiv. 3.6 m. barrels crude oil). I’m in favour of strategies which do more with what we already have available - simple.
