What I’ve been reading about:

  • CarbonBuzz: RIBA/CIBSE energy benchmarking website – Building Services Journal – "Engineers will be able to benchmark the energy consumption and emissions of their designs against similar schemes under a new CIBSE/RIBA initiative called CarbonBuzz. The online platform, due to launch on 5 November, will create a sector-by-sector monitor of UK buildings’ energy use and provide the two institutions with a framework for good practice."
  • ADF – Main Page – RSS news feeds for vitually every AEC company in the UK – useful resource.
  • Plumbing named the UK’s most recession-proof job – I'm tempted:"Train 4 Trade Skills says there are currently more than 30,000 unfilled plumbing vacancies in the UK, despite figures that show an average plumber earns between £30-35,000 a year and many earn more than £40,000."
  • HVAC men say crunchtime for sustainability – All the usual arguments here. I'm getting to be irked by the tendency to keep thinking of sustainability as a 'thing'. It's not a bolt-on and it's not a discipline. Sustainability is an outcome.
