Most credible environmental assessment method?
November 22nd, 2007
This is woefully out of date, but the report is still worth a read.
According to the General Services Administration (GSA) in the US, LEED beats BREEAM, CASBEE, GBTools and Green Globes US, as reported in ACHR News on 12 October 2006 and USGBC 27 September 2006. Reasons given are:
- LEED applies to all GSA project types, including new and existing buildings, interiors, and other areas covered by USGBC standards.
- LEED “tracks the quantifiable aspects of sustainable design and building performance,” a major focus of federal programs under the impetus of the Government Performance and Results Act and a general demand for performance measurement.
- Trained professionals verify LEED.
- LEED has a “well-defined system for incorporating updates”
A copy of the report can be found here (pdf).
LEED’s main competitor in the states, Green Globes, has an interesting business model - make the DT pay for the design information, along with the predictor, and then get 3rd party certification after.
